A tender and delicate performance, a theatrical diamond that is a tribute to arts and artisans.

A Mano is a story told with clay, through a small character with a great desire to escape from a shop window and those who inhabit in.
It is a love story, a story about small failures, a potter´s wheel, a cup that breathes, two people with great enthusiasm, a tiny pottery workshop and four hands that play.

A Mano is a small format show with a very big purpose: to touch you.

“A Mano is full of humour and tenderness, and its simple aesthetic belies a concentrated beauty that will reward the attentive spectator. El Patio Teatro have succeeded, like the potter, in creating something really special from almost nothing”.
- SARA KEATING, IRISH TIMES / DUBLIN 2014

“A tender and delicate performance … of very small dimensions where the protagonists are “produced” from a small piece of clay and the puppeteers´ hands act as the body, legs and feet…”
- Josep Vilaplana, Portal Jovespectacle.cat / FETEN-Gijón2013

ABOUT THE COMPANY

The “patio” as a meeting place, a place for reflection, listening, searching and playing…
The company was born in Logroño (La Rioja, Spain) in 2010 founded by artists Julián Sáenz-López and Izaskun Fernández, from their need to share with audiences stories from everyday life that happen around them, small stories they care about and aim them to seek out their own language to tell them on stage.
This search has driven them to take refuge in objects to alive them in a small format, playing with their own hands, like they do in A MANO (BY HAND), where terracotta, modeling and theatre come together.

Since its release in 2012, A MANO (By Hand) has been widely recognized and acclaimed by critics, theatre professionals and audiences. It’s been awarded as SMALL FORMAT BEST SHOW at FETEN 2013, the main professionals’ theatre festival for young and children at Gijón-Asturias, SPAIN. They have got also the AUTONOMIES SPECIAL DRAC D’OR AWARD at FIRA DE TITELLES DE LLEIDA 2013, very important puppet festival at Lleida-Catalonia, Spain, and the BEST SHOW AWARD by the audience at FESTIVAL ENCINART, at Enciso-La Rioja, Spain. They were recently awarded as BEST PERFORMERS for his role in A MANO at XXVII VALISE FESTIVAL in Lomza, Polland, juny 2014. They got the BEST SHOW AWARD in KUSS FESTIVAL, MARBURG (GERMANY) on March 2015.

Since 2013 they company has been touring in important Spanish and International Festivals as GERMANY’S FESTIVAL PANOPTIKUM, SPAIN’S TEATRALIA FESTIVAL, RUSSIA’S BIG BREAK FESTIVAL, DUBLIN THEATRE FESTIVAL , COUPS DE THÉÂTRE FESTIVAL IN MONTREAL, KUKLA FESTIVAL IN ISTANBUL, BELFAST CHILDREN’S FESTIVAL, IMAGINATE FESTIVAL IN SCOTLAND, TAKE OFF FESTIVAL IN DURHAM, À TOUT ÂGE FESTIVAL IN QUIMPER, MARIONNETTISSIMO FESTIVAL IN TOULOUSE, MUNICH PUPPET FESTIVAL, BABORO FESTIVAL, THE UNICORN THEATRE IN LONDON, and many more.
